Pink Siifu
The culture around evangelist preachers is partly the inspiration behind rapper Pink Siifu’s music video 'Devil’s Advocate', a stark, hip-hop track co-written with his wife, SS Sylvest.
Made in collaboration with director Ludovic Gontrand, the video smashes classic rap motifs together with delirious scenes from revivalist gatherings.
Gontrand describes Siifu’s performance as a “spiritual robbery;” a reflection on power in America, where the lines between devotion and exploitation are blurred.
It was filmed in the former Carlton Cinema in Islington, which has since been repurposed as the Gracepoint evangelical church.
With a large, energy-filled cast, I finished up being heavily featured in a number of scenes in the video.
